A coffee cup that sits comfortably between tradition and everyday use. Made from Amakusa porcelain stone at Shiratake-gama in Hasami, Nagasaki, the cups are finished with a soil ash glaze and decorated with gosu (cobalt blue) and akae (overglaze red) details. The forms were originally modelled by Kaneko Tetsurō in Arita and designed by Sugimoto Osamu for Azmaya.
The shape draws on the aesthetic of the Japanese kissaten, the old-school coffee shops that defined a certain quieter, more deliberate approach to coffee culture, reinterpreted in a clean, contemporary form that works equally well for filter coffee, espresso-based drinks, or tea.
This smaller cup measures 165 ml.
Hand washing recommended. The akae overglaze decoration is delicate and not suitable for the dishwasher. As with all hand-finished ceramics, dimensions and weight may vary slightly between individual pieces.
